MUSIC VIDEO EMBRACES NATURAL BODIES

As the "Much Music" and "MTV" television networks move more and more into so-called "reality" programming, the promotional video clips for pop songs are being posted more often on the internet. This has allowed musicians to promote their work without the corporophobic strictures of television (remember Janet Jackson?)
The clip for the song "Watching the Planets" by the Flaming Lips is a case in point. It treats the natural body in a more relaxed way. It's well worth a look: The URL is www.nme.com/video/bcid/49582897001.

Clothing-optional hiking trail opens in Germany

An 18km "nude hiking trail" (it seems, from news reports, that it is in fact clothing-optional) has been announced for the Harz mountains in Germany. Nude hiking is growing rapidly in popularity lately, especially in Europe, and a backlash has surfaced, which perhaps led to the special designation (which, given that it's Germany, would seem unnecessary). Here as elsewhere, NIFTY maintains that all public spaces should be clothing-optional, and that nude-only or clothed-only trails should be restricted to private property; It would seem that, even in Germany, we're not there yet.

Topfreedom News

This item was posted on the BurningMan Vancouver message list, and it's something NIFTY supports. Although being topfree is officially legal for both sexes in B.C. and Ontario, the unfortunate reality is that women are still sometimes subjected to harassment when naked above the waist, and many find it easier to exercise their rights when other supportive people are around. Sounds like this may be a good starting point. (The tendency to 'only do something if somebody else goes first', of course, is not exclusive to females, but seems present in a great many people of both sexes!)

For those who don't know yet, there is a miniscule but growing topless woman crowd at the very northern end of Third Beach in Stanley Park.
That's important for any Vancouver gal who wants to get some sun on her boobs after work on these sunny summer weekday afternoons, but is way too pooped for the trek out to Wreck Beach.
Yes, I know that Wreck is the nudist choice and yes, I know that legally we can go topless at any beach. But it seems that Third Beach is where it's happening in downtown Vancouver.
You know us girls: we'll only do something if somebody else goes first. ;) That means that the more women who go topless, the more women go topless. Last summer, it started with three of us and as we looked around, slowly more women joined in.
Feel free to join in. Women who want to go topless and men who support us. All are welcome. Please, it's for a good cause. :)
Cheers,
m
